Community Guidelines

HeyArab is for adults, 18 and older, looking to meet other adults. It is built around the Arab diaspora and the cultures within it, but everyone who joins in good faith and follows these guidelines is welcome.

Use it to connect: friendship, dating, marriage, whatever you are honest about wanting. Don’t use it to sell, recruit, promote, or fundraise.

Use your own name, your own photos, and your own voice. One account per person.

• No impersonating someone else, real or invented.
• No photos that are not of you, are heavily filtered to mislead, or are years out of date.
• No fake locations, ages, or intentions.
• Your first photo has to show your face, clearly and on its own. The others can be group shots, places, or things you love, as long as people can still tell which one is you.
• No nudity, no children, no screenshots, and no images you do not have the right to use. A photo already used on another account will be removed.

A “no”, or simply no reply, is a complete answer. Move on with grace.

We have zero tolerance for

• Harassment, threats, stalking, or repeated unwanted contact.
• Hate or slurs based on religion, sect, ethnicity, nationality, gender, disability, or sexual orientation. Sectarian and regional bigotry included.
• Sexual content sent without consent, and any sexualization of minors.
• Insults aimed at someone’s family, faith, or background.

All of this applies on voice and video calls too. No nudity or sexual talk you didn’t both agree to, and don’t record, screenshot, or share a call without the other person saying yes. Either of you can end a call at any time.

Most people here are who they say they are. A few are not. Protect yourself, especially early on.

• Never send money, gift cards, or crypto to someone you met here, no matter the story. This is the most common scam.
• Keep chats on HeyArab until you trust someone. Be wary of anyone rushing you onto another app. When you’re ready, tap + in the chat and pick Share my number or Share my Instagram. The other person has to accept before they see it.
• Meet in public the first few times, and tell a friend where you are going.
• Guard personal details like your home address, workplace, and financial information until trust is earned.

This covers everything on your profile: photos, bio, prompt answers, polls, places, your Good to know note, your song, and your voice intro or voice answers. Keep all of it free of the following:

• Nudity, sexually explicit material, or graphic violence.
• Phone numbers, social handles, or links. That includes your Good to know note, even though only matches see it. In chat, use Share my number or Share my Instagram instead.
• Your home address, including as a place prompt.
• Spam, advertising, MLM pitches, or solicitation of any kind.
• Illegal content or anything promoting self-harm.

Every profile, conversation, and call has Block and Report options, and you can press and hold a single message to report just that one. Blocking is instant and silent. They are not told, and they can no longer see your profile or contact you. Reporting sends the details to our moderation team. We read every report, but one report on its own doesn’t get someone banned.

For anything urgent or serious, email safety@heyarab.app. If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.

Depending on severity and history, we may remove content, limit features, hide a profile from discovery, put an account under review until something is fixed, suspend an account, or ban it permanently. Serious cases like threats, fraud, and anything involving minors lead to an immediate ban and, where appropriate, a report to the authorities. A ban also stops the phone it was used on from opening a new account for 180 days.

Automated checks help us catch spam, scams, and explicit photos. They can hide content or flag an account, but a person decides on any suspension or ban. If your account is locked and you think we got it wrong, tap “Appeal this decision” in the app. A person reads every appeal.

We review reports with context and care, but we do not owe a detailed explanation for every moderation decision, and we may act to protect the community before a full review.
