How we keep HeyArab real and safe.

HeyArab is a small community, and it only works if people trust who they are talking to. Here is what we check, what you control, and what to do if something feels off.

How profiles are checked

Every photo is reviewed before it goes live. Photos that do not clearly show you, contain nudity or someone underage, or are misleading do not get through, and you are told why.

You can also verify with a selfie. The app asks for a short live selfie and compares it with your profile photos. If it matches, your profile gets a verified badge. It is optional, and the badge tells other people that the face on the profile belongs to a real person.

Vouches add another layer. A vouch is a few kind words from someone who knows you, like a friend or a cousin. You choose who to ask, you approve each one before it appears, and up to three show on your profile.

Moderation

We use automated checks to catch obvious problems early, and people on our team review reports and flagged content. We act on reports quickly, and nobody is penalized for reporting in good faith.

The rules everyone agrees to are in our Community Guidelines.

Community Guidelines

Report, block and stay private

Every profile and chat has Block and Report. Blocking is instant and the other person is not told. Reporting sends the details to our moderation team.

If you would rather not be found by people you already know, you can block your phone contacts. Their numbers are hashed on our servers, and we never store them in plain form.

On the screens that show other people’s profiles, the app blocks screenshots, so photos and details are harder to copy and pass around.

Meeting someone safely

  • 01Talk for a while first. A voice call or a video call is a good way to check that the person matches their profile.
  • 02Meet in a public place the first few times, and pick it yourself.
  • 03Tell a friend or a sibling where you are going, who you are meeting, and when you expect to be back.
  • 04Get there and home on your own. Keep your own ride so you can leave when you want.
  • 05Keep money out of it. If someone asks you to send money, for any reason, stop replying, report them and block.
  • 06Keep personal details like your home address and workplace to yourself until you trust the person.
  • 07If something feels off, leave. You do not owe anyone an explanation.

If something goes wrong

You have a few options, and you can use more than one.

  1. Report and block the person from their profile or from the chat.
  2. Write to us with what happened. Screenshots and usernames help.
